Let`s bike Moscow!

Moscow Government Department of Transport and MosgortransNIIproekt project institute developed and started to implement a new scheme of bicycle paths and pedestrian zones until 2020.
This project is based on studies concerning the city infrastructure, scientific ideas for the city transformation. International experts such as Federico Paralotto and its Bureau Mobility in Chain, as well as founder Michael Zeiler Rosinak & Partner worked on the new scheme elaboration.
Experts analyzed different types of data, including the number of road accidents, the density of foot traffic and the location of socially important objects. The new scheme is alike with the underground circle scheme and includes the 80 kilometer "Green Ring" radial and chord lines.
We can already see changes in some city streets - the new markup, giving cyclists a "green light" in their movements. Also, pedestrian zones in major central streets of Moscow has been expanded. In total, they plan to change about 300 streets.
The project will be evaluated due to a number of criteria. First, of course, the share of cycling trips from the total. Moreover, the level of traffic jams and, oddly enough, the number of women using bikes - it will show the level of safety of this type of transport.
