Studying the Arctic: students from 8 countries took part in a Russian expedition

From 19 to November 21, Moscow plans to hold federal Arctic Forum "The Arctic Days in Moscow", which will bring together politicians, academics and business people to discuss the future and development of the region.

In July this year an international Arctic expedition under the project "Arctic Floating University - 2015" ended in Russia.

The researchers from 8 countries within 20 days studied the changes of vegetation in the Arctic tundra affected by the climate change, organisms and populations of different species in the archipelago of Novaya Zemlya and Franz Josef Land, and also evaluated the level of contamination of the local island territories. At the moment, scientists are working on their research materials for future publications.

In October, NATO Deputy Secretary General Alexander Vershbow said the Arctic provides an opportunity for international cooperation between Russia and the West.
