The Kosh-Agach solar plant is the first plant of 5 MW capacity in Russia. Previous modifications were able to produce only 2 MW of energy.
The investor and general contractor is Hevel Solar, the company providing end-to-end alternative energy services. The Kosh-Agach plant is the first step towards Altay region project realization, which suggests erection of 5 similar plants with an overall capacity of 45 MW.
On the opening ceremony held on 4 September 2014, Vladimir Putin highlighted the importance of renewable energy development in Russia, especially in remote regions.
The project is being implemented in accordance with RF Government Decree №449 on the Mechanism for the Promotion of Renewable Energy on the Wholesale Electricity and Capacity Market adopted on 28 May 2014 which shows Russian Legislation contributes to renewable energy development.
Although Russia has the largest fossil fuel reserves, implementing solar plants able to generate additional energy will have a positive impact on social and economic development of Kosh-Agachsky district and regions nearby.
