The project is a bright example of the cooperation between business and science. Sponsored by ROSNANO, Russian scientists from The Ioffe Institute managed to invent a technology that allows to produce solar energy even in a nasty weather. The new solar modules have been installed on the roof of the institute in Saint Petersburg where the technology was introduced. This has helped to cut energy expenses of the building significantly.
However, such a successful result was reached after many years of research. The knowledge center specializing in solar energy was founded in 1990.
The innovative technology allows to increase the efficiency to 20% due to nanostructured silicon which is sprayed on the solar modules.
The CEO of Hevel, Igor Shakhray, says:
«If we do not follow the latest industry trends we will go behind the rest of the world. Today we have made a step forward and we are now on the same level with the world PV development. 22% is a great figure. 16% efficiency today is a standard.»
The first region to implement this technology will be Altay. Russia has set a target to reach 1,5 GW of solar energy by 2020.This will help provide chip and clean energy to millions of homes.
