Noise is an inevitable part of metropolis' life. Literally every millimeter of city space vibrates from the sound wavering (oscillations). The equipment of Production-Commercial firm “Digital devices” helps measure the level of noise, vibration, electromagnetic fields in residential and commercial buildings, automobiles and other transport. It is represented in Russia’s “near abroad” (in many countries of the former Soviet Union). What has the company done in order to become competitive and successful on the Eurasian Economic Union market?

During almost ten years of its presence, the Production-Commercial firm “Digital devices” has managed to recreate from scratch the ruined industry of Russian professional devices for measurement of noise, vibration and electromagnetic fields. The founders of the company are truly competent people, specialists on metrology and acoustics. Today the corporative brands, such as “Ecophysics”, “Octaphone”, “EcoTherma”, “OctaveElectronDesign” are the bestsellers in their product categories in the countries of EAEU. How have they started their way to success?

“Our company has been developing highly-precise acoustic equipment from the late nineties. At that time Russia has missed the technological breakthrough, which had happened in the world of noise measurement devices in the beginning of the decade”, — says CEO of “Digital devices” Yuriy Kurilenko.

During the nineties the mass consumer could afford only the outdated soviet equipment. Modern foreign noise audiometers were very rare, expensive and not tailored to the requirements of Russian market. The main challenge for Russian industry was to create digital portable noise audiometers and vibration sensors, with capability of measuring a wide range of normalized indicators of noise and vibration, but would be cheap and easy to use. That was the problem which future contributors of “Digital devices” had wanted to solve from the beginning. Multifunctional high-end equipment which can be used in different areas — from the work hygiene to scientific studies — has become the result of their efforts.

First generation of noise audiometers and vibration sensors “Octava—101” has taken the Russia’s market straight off. During the next five years several thousand professional measurement devices have been produced — many of them are still being used today. From that time the company has updated product line several times.

“In 2006 we decided to create instrument-making association on the base of “Octava”, “Digital devices” and “ElectronDesign”. Manufacturing complex, sales department, service and training centers have shaped its infrastructure”, — says Yuriy Kurilenko.

Today the entreprises' staff involved in the instrument-making association “Octava ElectronDesign” are members of technical committees “Acoustic” and “Vibration and Stroke” which are the part of Rosstandart (Federal agency on technical regulating and metrology), laboratorial council of Federal center of hygiene and epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor (Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Rights Protection and Human Welfare) and professional communities incorporating labor protection’s specialists. Some of them are experts of International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). The company has accredited metrology service whose specialists accomplish the works on characterization of measurement routine, metrological evaluation of documents and calibration of techniques. No wonder top-management considers their staff as the main reason of success. Their vast experience and knowledge along with high accuracy electronics let the company create professional programming operation of which is taught in authorized service centers in Ekaterinburg, Novosibirsk and Moscow.

Association “Octava ElectronDesign” has dozens of its own unique inventions. Staff members are mostly proud of portable multifunctional measuring laboratory of factors of work place and environment. Its components are combined under the brand “Ecophysics”. Flagship of product line is unique high accuracy measuring instrument with functions of noise audiometer, vibration sensor, multichannel spectrum analyzer, digital recorder and selective micro voltmeter at the same time. Besides that, “Ecophysics”’s equipment has a unique digital interface thanks to which instruments for measuring light, humidity and temperature, electric and magnetic fields and other devices can be connected. And this laboratory can fit into a little satchel!

Advantages of this measuring equipment are: 1. multitasking; 2. simplicity of operation; 3. portability; 4. adaptedness for Russia’s law requirements and technical guidelines; 5. capability to unite devices in sub allocated measuring systems with single operation; 6. remote assistance by cable and radio channel for rapid transfer of measurement results; 7. innovative methodology of measurement.

Today “Ecophysics”’s technics are being used by leading Russian exploratory laboratories. Among them — centers of hygiene, epidemiology and protection of labor, industrial sanitation laboratories, nature protection enterprises, certification and construction supervision bodies. Persistent demand at the EAEU market depicts the high quality of equipment.

For example, for previous several years till 2014, sales had been rising by 15-20 per cent a year — mainly due to programs of workplace safety and nature conservation of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan. Significantly that volume of realization of “Ecophysics” did not drop after the crisis took place. Today devices of that brand are in almost every professional vibroacoustic laboratory in EAEU.

In spite of good financial results, “Octava ElectronDesign” continues to enhance their devices as well as the measurement methodology. Indeed new technics force to take a fresh look at measuring process itself. Modern devices are delusively easy in operation, and from time to time it seems that they can work without man’s participation. Sometimes it is absolutely true, but in most cases it really needs human attendance. To that end, association “Octava ElectronDesign” tends to provide the specialists with instrument which would make them free from routine and guarantee powerful data analysis facilities. Nowadays the third generation of measurement equipment are being tested.

Production capacity of one of the main association’s companies “Digital devices” are situated at Moscow technology park “Kalibr”. At the same time distributors are working in different Russian regions. Association is interested in direct partnering with corporates from Kazakhstan, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan and other EAEU countries.

“We have partners who help our products enter new markets, but we are looking forward to broaden our collaboration with as many stake holders as possible. We hope that the latest Russia’s government initiatives related to lightening export for innovative products of small and medium businesses will lead to successful distribution of our devices in many countries”, — said Yuriy Kurilenko.
